Parts Mapping
Externalizing the internal: drawing or listing your Parts so you can see the whole system.
Description
Mapping clarifies who’s on stage and who’s in the background. You note names, jobs, triggers, relationships, and alliances. The goal isn’t accuracy: it’s perspective. Once visible, Parts feel recognized and calm down.
We wrote about it in Mapping and tracking your parts and touched the topic in Lifemapping: Mindmapping meets IFS Parts Mapping
What Parts Mapping is NOT:
Label mania; permanent taxonomy; guessing other people’s Parts.
Examples:
Sketching your “Board of Directors” with Managers and Firefighters.
Color-coding protectors vs. exiles.
Re-mapping monthly to notice system changes.
