Parts Work

Any approach that treats subpersonalities as real-enough to dialogue with, negotiate, and reassign roles.

Description

An umbrella category (IFS, Voice Dialogue, Gestalt chairs). The stance: Parts aren’t enemies: they’re overworked employees. Name them, listen, update their jobs under Self (or adult) leadership.

What Parts Work is NOT:

Pathologizing quirks; forcing “integration” via willpower; treating Parts as an excuse to misbehave.

Examples:

Chair-work between a Critic and a Creative.
Journaling as two Parts debating a decision.
Negotiating with a Risk Manager before a hard conversation.
