Parts (in IFS)

Semi-autonomous subpersonalities with jobs and histories; all are welcome, none are the enemy.

Description

Parts carry roles (protector, exile) and burdens (beliefs, affects). They’re intentful: trying to help with the tools they have. The aim isn’t exile or eviction but role renegotiation under Self leadership.

What Parts (in IFS) is NOT:

DSM diagnoses; multiple personalities; pure Jungian archetypes.

Examples:

A planner that micromanages to prevent chaos.
A rage part that scares people off to avoid shame.
A small, lonely part convinced love is conditional.
