Self

The calm, curious, unflappable core that can relate to every part without becoming any of them.

Description

In IFS, Self is the undamaged capacity for presence and leadership. It isn’t perfection or a mood; it’s a stance that’s steady, warm, and resourceful. When Self leads, parts relax because they feel seen, not overruled.

What Self is NOT:

Ego ideal; dissociation; your “true personality type.”

Examples:

You feel a spike of shame, greet the part carrying it, and stay kind.
You negotiate with a procrastinator without contempt.
You set a boundary and remain connected.
